December First Friday, Merry Music and Holiday Artisan Market

First Friday, Merry Music, the Holiday Artisan Market

The highlight of the holiday season is back, First Friday, Merry Music, December 6, 6-9pm, with our famous and infamous local musicians performing their favorite/s song of the season. Come by and listen if your favorite song is “Fairytale of NY,” (mine), “2000 miles, “”O Holy Night,” “Son of a Carpenter,” ”Blue Christmas,” “I saw Mommy kissing Santa,” “River,” James Taylor version, “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” “If We Make it Through December,” “Gabriel’s Message,” and several group songs, like “Merry Christmas Baby,” with audience participation. This is a small list of the evening’s song list; most of the musicians haven’t posted their choices yet. Performers will be Franc Graham, Ron Fletcher, Claudia Wellington, Kevin Dambruch, Jeremy Blanchard, Dennis O’Brien. Pat Neves, Karl Pastore, Steve Cousineau, and the Choculeles. You can match up the songs with the performers that night. First Fridays are free, family friendly with refreshments, hope to see you there. If you’re wondering why you haven’t been invited to perform, send an email to info@miltonartcenter.org to introduce yourself.

The art work of Laurinda O’Connor will be on display. This has been a heavy season, missing her, viewing her landscapes is a balm to the soul. Many of her artist friends have volunteered to gallery sit; view our Facebook page for open times to view Laurinda’s artwork.

The following day, December 7, 10am-4pm,  is the annual Holiday Artisan Market. Every year we see your wonderful faces when you come to shop with your favorite artisans. We feel fortunate that you include these talented artisans on your holiday to-do list. This year Lisa Trachtman is back with jewelry, Lacy Stoneburner with handmade journals, and notebooks, Kathleen McDonough with felted ornaments and decor, Michelle Rothman with candles, Bethany and Juan Navarro with laser cut maps and cheese boards, Sue Hoy with paintings and ceramics, Max Bohane with paintings and cards, Mona Lisa Neville with soaps, Teresita with jewelry, Claire Bertrand & Elena Malcolm, the Three of Cups with original art Tarot cards, Suzette Standring with note cards and totes, Rose Gates with paintings, Leesha Boylan with face painting and photography, Teresa Cidlevich with blankets and holiday items, Jackie Mullen with glass displays and blankets, Mary Jane Walker with decoupage art, and Jessica McDaniel of Boston Baby Photo with baby photography. We will all be missing and remembering Janice Fahy, a talented jewelry maker that we looked forward to seeing every holiday season.

This is the season of gratitude and we are so grateful to our art teachers who go above and beyond to provide students with enriching, creative experiences. We are grateful to MICA, Milton Interfaith Clergy Association, for including us every year in their heartwarming service of community. We are grateful to the Milton Woman’s Club and SincLaw P.C., real estate attorneys, for funding the Senior Art Lab which just concluded its  fall season of artmaking. We are in the process of building a webpage to note the history of service that the Milton Woman’s Club has provided to our community. We are one of many persons and organizations that has been granted an opportunity to extend what we do best to our community because of their generosity, thank you Deanna Seymourian, Carole Kussmann and Suzette Standring. I’m sure the artmaking participants would agree that this was a creative life enhancement and authentic connections were made. To learn when the spring schedule will start, add your email to our notification newsletter, posted on our main web page. We are also grateful to the Milton Times, our community newspaper, that gives us the opportunity to tell you about what is happening next at the Milton Art Center.
