Make a Straw Blown Painting

Straw blown painting

What you’ll need:

Paper (heavyweight paper works best)

Straw

Watercolor or any other type of paint watered down.

Teaspoon to drop paint on paper

Note: In this class, we focused on warm and cool colors and used only these in each of our paintings. For example, only use warm colors or only use cool colors so the colors don’t get muddy.

Step One: Add 1/8 cup water to your paint in a cup, then mix up your paint. It should be very thin.

Step Two: Drop a very small amount of paint on your paper with a teaspoon. and blow gently with the straw. Keep your straw at an angle so the air you are blowing moves the paint. Add more drops to fill your paper.

Step Three: What happens to the paint and design when you blow very hard? Try moving your straw around while you blow into it. Do the paint trails curve?

Step Four: Take a photo of your painting and share it with us by tagging the MAC on social media and using #ArtShareMAC!, or email us your photo to info@miltonartcenter.org and we will share it for you!
