MAC Summer Programs for Ages 5-8

Growing Artists: A Creative Art Program for Ages 5–8

As children grow, so does their ability to create with confidence. Our Growing Artists program for ages 5–8 is designed to nurture creativity while gently building foundational skills in drawing, painting, clay, and mixed media.

In a supportive, play-based environment, children explore new materials and techniques with guidance from encouraging teaching artists who value each child’s unique creative voice. Imagination remains at the heart of the program, while age-appropriate skill-building activities help strengthen fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and creative problem-solving.

Campers create both in the studio and outdoors in our backyard art-making space under shaded tents when weather allows. Working outside offers fresh air, movement, and a change of pace that supports focus, well-being, and creative exploration.

With a 1:4 staff-to-camper ratio, every child receives personalized guidance and encouragement. As campers make artistic choices, experiment with materials, and try new approaches, they gain confidence, independence, and pride in their work.

Each camper receives a personal art journal to capture ideas, sketches, and inspiration throughout the week. Campers also receive a camp t-shirt, which may become another creative canvas and a lasting keepsake from their time at camp.

This program is ideal for children who love to make art and are ready to take the next step in their creative journey.

*When deciding between the 6-12 program or the 5-8 program, families often choose program based on the theme or to allow siblings to attend camp together.
