MAC Summer Programs for Ages 6 - 12

Creative Exploration, Confidence, and Community
At our summer art camps, children ages 6–12 are encouraged to think like artists—imagining boldly, experimenting freely, and developing skills in a supportive, inspiring environment. Our programs are designed for curious, creative kids who enjoy making art, trying new ideas, and expressing themselves.

Our teaching approach emphasizes the creative process rather than a single outcome. Campers explore drawing, painting, building, clay, and mixed media through open-ended projects that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and personal expression. With a 1:5 staff-to-camper ratio, children receive individualized guidance and encouragement from professional teaching artists and trained assistants, helping them grow in confidence and independence.

Differentiated Instruction
Campers are grouped by age within the 6–12 range, typically working in ages 6–8 and ages 9–12 groups. Lead assistants and teaching artists tailor instruction, materials, and expectations to meet children where they are developmentally, encouraging growth, skill-building, and creative risk-taking.

Outdoor Art-Making & Inspiration
When weather allows, campers create art outdoors in our backyard under shaded tents. Outdoor art-making offers fresh air, movement, and a change of pace from the studio, supporting focus, well-being, and creative exploration. Nature often becomes a source of inspiration, with campers incorporating colors, textures, and patterns from our outdoor grounds into their work. Every day has an outdoor movement and games break along with a nut free snack time.

Weekly Themes That Inspire Creativity
Each week features themed projects that invite campers to dive deeply into specific materials and ideas, including clay, mixed media, drawing and painting, and our popular World-Building camps. In World-Building, campers imagine and design their own worlds—creating landscapes, structures, and characters that reflect their interests and ideas. Across all themes, children make creative choices, experiment with materials, and see their ideas take shape, strengthening decision-making skills, creativity, and self-confidence along the way.

A Creative Community

Beyond skill-building, camp offers something just as important: connection. Creating alongside peers who share similar interests helps children build friendships, collaborate, and feel part of a vibrant creative community.

Journals & T-Shirts: Tools for Creative Thinking
Every camper receives a personal art journal to sketch ideas, plan projects, and capture inspiration throughout the week. Journals help campers develop visual thinking skills and reflect on their creative process. Campers also receive a camp t-shirt, which in some classes becomes another creative surface to personalize, turning it into a wearable keepsake from their summer experience.
